Washington County Harvest Nears Completion

Posted By News On @ 6:24 am In Today's Local News | Comments Disabled

Now that harvest is all said and done, a local farmer is pleased by the unexpected yields. Washington County farmer Jim Cuddeback shares that his corn did much better than he initially expected.

He says his yields varied by soil type, with the better soil seeing 180-190 per acre. He explains that in a good year he’d like to see those kinds of numbers on all of his 500 acres. Cuddeback also grows soybeans and says he was pleasantly surprised by those yields as well.

He attributes the decent harvest despite the harsh conditions to better hybrids. He says the genetics they didn’t have during the last major droughts in ‘83 and ’88 must have made a world of difference.
