Harvest season is here and farmers need to use extra caution to avoid fires this time of year.  Washington-Keokuk County Emergency Management Coordinator Larry Smith says because of the dry conditions, the fire risk is enhanced.

He says to avoid harvesting on windy days and be aware of fire weather watches and warnings.  Smith says farmers should avoid outdoor burning on days where there is an elevated fire risk.

He notes farmers should also carry two fire extinguishers in case of a fire.  Smith adds to call the Fire Department if a fire should break out.
