Coffee Prices Increasing, Local Businesses Question How To Make Up The Difference

Coffee prices have returned to nearly 13-year highs, with bean futures up 35% since June. Back to back crop problems in places like Columbia have whittled down global supplies. Gina Richardson owns Washington’s Coffee Corner. Her coffee supply has gone up nearly a dollar per pound, but she isn’t charging customers the difference. Richardson says sometimes business owners have to take a hit in order to keep customers, but repetitive price increases will eventually lead to higher costs for consumers. A large coffee harvest is expected from Brazil, which could relieve current prices.
