The end of 2009 and the beginning of this year have been extremely wet, which has many southeast Iowa farmers anxious about spring planting conditions. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says there is a sort of silver lining to blanket of snow covering the area. He says it’s acted as a sort of soil insulator. Because of this, there’s not a lot of frost in the ground, which could make for a slightly quicker thaw this spring.
