Certified Handlers Continuing Instruction Course

Washington County Extension will offer the Certified Handlers Continuing Instruction Course (CIC) Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the course will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. The registration fee is $35 on or before March 6 and $45 after March 6. To register or obtain additional information about the CIC, contact Washington County Extension by calling 319-653-4811.

Washington County Extension and Outreach will be hosting a Beginning Farmer meeting on March 12 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Washington County Extension Office, located at 2223 250th St. Good communication is key to good partnerships, relationships, and work environments. This Beginning Farmer meeting which will feature an interactive exercise to understand people and their different personalities. The meeting will also feature ISU Farm Management Specialist Ryan Drollette who will discuss implications with the new farm bill.

March 11 the IMS Compassion Club is hosting a blood drive from 6:30AM-10:30AM to benefit the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. Each donation saves 3-4 lives and because of blood drive cancellations due to bad weather, reserves are low right now. Also there isn’t a blood drive scheduled in Wellman this year, so please call the IMS office (319) 656-2073) or email Gloria Yoder (gyoder@iowammenonite.org) to set up an appointment. New donors, as well as regular donors, are welcome!

Free Mobile Clinic

The University of Iowa health sciences students will be having their free mobile clinic on Saturday March 9th from 10 a.m-1 p.m. at the Columbus Community Senior Center in Columbus Junction. A Louisa County Hunter Safety course will be offered on Thursday, March 7 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Bayer Rec Building and Saturday, March 9 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Langwood Education Center. Students must attend both classes in order to become certified. The course includes classroom lessons as well as live fire and shooting demonstrations.
