A program to help Iowans with heating their homes during the winter has started accepting some applications.

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, also called LIHEAP, is accepting applications during the month of October from households who have members that are at least 60-years-old and those who are disabled. All other applications will be accepted starting November 1st. They are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. LIHEAP is a federally-funded program by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

To qualify for LIHEAP, homeowners and renters must meet eligibility requirements within the federal poverty guidelines. To qualify, a family must be at or below 200% of the 2025 federal poverty guidelines – which is $64,300 annual gross income for a family of four.
