
The Lone Tree Lions had a successful softball season come to an close Wednesday night with a 10-3 loss to Gilbertville Don Bosco in the Class 1A Region 5 quarterfinals.
Lone Tree fell behind after Don Bosco scored two runs in the first inning, and the Dons stretched the lead to 5-0 in the fifth before doubling their advantage in the top of the seventh. The Lions finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom half, but they could not come all the way back.
The season ends for Lone Tree with a record of 15-8. The Lions will be losing seven seniors next year, including Vivian Zaruba, Rylee Shield, Cate Sexton, Kayleigh Rundlett, Sami Branson, Haley Bockelman and Alex Dautremont.
