More ash trees will be removed from city property in Washington. The Council recently approved the removal of 31 trees for a total of $15,350. The cost was $495 per tree, down from the last round of work which was about $560 per tree. The removal is necessary due to the emerald ash borer which kills ash trees. City Administrator Brent Hinson says the city will be finished with the project next year, “I know Nick Duvall, who has been heading up this effort, said that he thought by June of next year we’d have all the ash trees out of the city property. So, that’s a huge success as far as getting that addressed.” In the summer of 2017 the council was informed that the city had 242 ash trees and 55 hazardous trees that needed to be removed.
