Washington volleyball played five matches on Saturday at the Grinnell Invite, leaving with a 2-3 record having played some heavy hitters of the region.

In the Demons’ first match of the day, Washington fell to Iowa City High 2-0, with scores of 8-21 and 12-21. Another two-set loss followed to Solon, 15-21 and 15-21. Washington then secured their first win of the day, a two-set win over SEC opponent Fairfield, 21-19 and 21-18. The Demons then defeated another SEC rival, Mount Pleasant, in their first three-set match of the day, with scores of 23-20, 18-21, 15-13. To wrap things up, Washington fell in three sets to Xavier, 6-21, 21-9, 13-15.

Layla Green came out of Saturday’s games the team leader in kills, with 27 across all five games. Reagan Miller had 17, while Lauren Drahota had 14. Assist leaders included Elyse Nichols with 22, Vivienne Kroll with 20, and  Miller with 18. Kendall Conway and Keagyn Coleman led the team in digs with 26 and 22 respectively.

The Demons recorded 14 aces for the day. Washington left the weekend 2-3 overall.
