The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities has issued a heat advisory through Wednesday evening.

Heat index values up to 103 degrees are expected for all of southeast Iowa. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Peak heat indices of 95 degrees to just over 100 degrees are expected. Tuesday and Wednesday may be the hottest days of the week, with limited relief overnight with temperatures only falling into the low-to-mid 70s.

To reduce risk of heat-related illness during outdoor work, schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Be sure to drink plenty of water. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle; even with the windows down, the temperatures inside can climb quickly. According to the National Weather Service, when it is 90-degrees outside the temperature inside a vehicle can reach 116 degrees in just 15 minutes. Always remember to double check your vehicle before leaving it.
