Stewart Elementary second graders recently learned all about agricultural safety with a Progressive Ag Safety day hosted by Washington County Extension and Outreach. This day provided a hands-on, interactive learning experience focused on a wide range of safety topics relevant to students’ daily lives.

Students rotated through multiple stations led by community partners and organizations. Presenters included, Washington YMCA, Washington County Hospital and Clinics and Washington County Dispatch Center, Washington Fire Department, ISU Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist, WCHC Behavioral Health, WCDC, KCTC, Alliant Energy, Washington County Emergency Management, Operation Lifesaver, and the Washington Police Department K9 Unit.

Each station provided age-appropriate lessons designed to help students recognize potential hazards and learn practical strategies for staying safe at home, at school, and in their community. Students learned about a variety of topics including emergency response, household safety, mental health awareness, safety around trains and railroad tracks, and understanding the role of community safety professionals.

The Progressive Agriculture Safety Day is part of a national program that offers age-appropriate and hands-on educational experiences.
