The Washington Demons and WACO Warriors stood atop the podium at this year’s Ekstrand Relays in Wayland, with the Demons taking Class A while the Warriors defended their home track by placing first in Class B.
Washington won the Class A team championship with 152 team points. Individual champions included Caden Greiner in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.30, Grayson Hartman in the shot put with a distance of 63’01” and in the discus throw with a distance of 172’05, the 4x110m shuttle hurdle relay team of Christopher Richardson, Caden Greiner, Bryer Sobaski, and Isaac Medrano with a time of 1:06.66, and the 4x800m relay team of Caden Greiner, Ethan Hotchkiss, Sawyer Tschantz, and Parker Tschantz. Second place Demons included Eli Wulf in the 100m, Liam Roberts in the 200m, Medrano in the 400m hurdles, Andrew Rees in the 1600m and 3200m, and Brady Krantz in the discus throw and shot put. Third place Demons included Sawyer Tschantz in the 800m, Jack Sheperd in the 3200m, the sprint medley relay team of Wulf, Nic Stone, Blaine Rees, and Tyler Lukavsky, and the 4×100 relay team of Wulf, Stone, Medrano, and Roberts.
WACO won the Class B team championship with 125 team points. Warriors who earned individual championships include Hayden Shelman in the 100m with a time of 11.55, in the 200m with a time of 24.03, and in the long jump with a distance of 20’05,” Owen Lord in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.87, Jude Dykstra in the 800m with a time of 2:01.25, the 4x800m relay team of Locken Henderson, Garrett Landau, Gavin Slagel, and Dykstra with a time of 8:20.88, and the distance medley relay team of Shelman, Bryson Waterhouse, Henderson, and Dykstra with a time of 3:42.43. Taking second place for the Warriors were Landau in the 1600m, Sam Meyer in the discus throw, and the 4x110m shuttle hurdle relay team of Waterhouse, Easton Whittemore, Jonah Miller, and Lord. Taking third place were Slagel in the 1600m, Lord in the high jump, and the sprint medley relay team of Rydge Sterna, Eli Cavin, Miller, and Whittemore.
Sigourney finished second in Class B with 120 team points. Champions for the Savages included Troy Klett in the 1600m with a time of 4:38.16 and in the 3200m with a time of 10:27.99. Second place Savages were Lance Walden in the 100m, Brayden Wood in the 400m hurdles, Cole Klett in the 3200m, Aiden Knepper in the long jump, Graham Moore in the shot put, and the sprint medley relay team of Carson O’Rourke, Carson Davis, Walden, and Wood. Third place finishers included Troy Klett in the 800m, the 4x100m relay team of O’Rourke, Knepper, Davis, and Walden, the 4x800m relay team of Levi Meyers, Jordan Anderson, Isaac Jones, and Brentley Weldon Kyle, and the distance medley relay team of O’Rourke, Knepper, Wood, and Troy Klett.
Winfield-Mt. Union placed fourth in Class B with 82 team points. Champions for the Wolves included Colin Anderson in the shot put with a distance of 42’11” and in the discus throw with a distance of 134’01”, and the 4x110m shuttle hurdle relay team of Gavin Prior, Treyor Samuels, Jaxton Jones, and Cruz Hagmeier with a time of 1:05.00. The 4x100m relay team of Kade Sweezer, Samuels, Hagmeier, and Jones finished second. Third place Wolves included Prior in the 110m hurdles, Parker Wilson in the long jump, the 4x200m relay team of Sweezer, Kale Kerr, Kai Ball, and Isaac Egli, and the 4x400m relay team of Brayden Cline, Jagger Thomson, Bowen Thomson, and Ball.
Highland placed sixth in Class B with 54 team points. The 4x200m relay team of Elvin Hernandez, Nate Clark, Brock Nebergall, and Caleb Wheeler placed first with a time of 1:39.34. Second place Huskies were Wheeler in the 200m, Brody Beinhart in the 400m, and the 4x800m relay team of Nebergall, Beinhart, Hernandez, and Hartzler. Taking third place were Clark in the 100m, and Nebergall in the 400m hurdles.
