One team looks to continue their early season momentum, the other looks to set the tone for a new year in their opener tonight when the Washington Demon boys soccer team entertains the Hillcrest Academy Ravens.

The Demons are 1-0 this year after an exciting 3-2 win over Columbus a week ago. Washington totaled 12 shots, eight on goal with four corner kicks in the victory over the Wildcats. Santiago Ramirez, Ben Kronlage and Nerick Raymundo were the scoring stars for Washington with a goal each. Nery Salazar added an assist and Braedon Tappan got the job done in goal with nine saves.

Hillcrest Academy enters off of an 8-5-2 campaign a year ago that saw them finish 4-2-2, middle of the pack in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. The Ravens outscored their opponents last season 59-22 with 52 assists, 152 shots on goal, 93 corner kicks, 75 saves and a 77% team save percentage. The Ravens lost their top four goal-scorers to graduation with Mason Helmuth, Micah Gerber, Mason Bender and Seth Ours combining on 41 goals a season ago. That quartet also led Hillcrest with a combined 31 assists. Top returners for the Ravens is Rowan Miller with four goals and Isaac Beachy with five assists. Defensively, the Ravens will have to replace the duo of Kyle Neuschwander and Andrew Kauffman in goal who played the full 1,200 minutes on the back-line for Hillcrest with 72 combined saves and a 77% percentage. Washington has won three of the last four in the series, but it was the Ravens with a 4-0 victory in Kalona a year ago. Action between the Demons and the Ravens starts tonight at 5p.m. At the Washington Wellness Park.
