With fall hunting seasons in full swing, the latest numbers from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources show that nearly 300 deer have been harvested across Washington County, while turkey harvests have been light so far this fall.

Totals in Washington County include 282 deer, with 119 does, four doe fawns, 146 antlered bucks, 10 button bucks and three shed antler bucks. Only one turkey has been collected this fall after 81 were harvested by hunters in the spring.

Deer hunting seasons that are currently open include archery for deer. Also, for turkeys currently archery and gun-bow are open. Deer shotgun and muzzleloader seasons will reopen in December.

Hunters are required to wear at least one article of blaze orange clothing as a safety measure, but the DNR recommends wearing more as an additional precaution.
