The Iowa Primary Care Association Behavioral Health Services had a presentation Tuesday for the Washington County Board of Supervisors.
The presentation was delivered by Sarah Berndt and Unity Stevens, Berndt talked about what services Iowa PCA help facilitate, As of August 2025, Iowa Primary Care Association executed more than 112 behavioral health administration service organization contracts for providers. Those contracts have gone out and include services across the seven program areas as well as unique programs and services. Like the correspondent model for crisis services where a mental health professional and a law enforcement officer will respond together to a crisis in the community. We’ve also been supporting jails to provide medications prescribing and paying for medications for individuals in the jail with behavioral health needs. And then we support schoo-l based behavioral health services in some of the schools throughout the state.”
The Iowa Primary Care Association (Iowa PCA) supports Iowa’s community health centers (CHCs) and Iowa’s Behavioral Health Delivery System. It also serves as the statewide Behavioral Health Administrative Service Organization (BH-ASO) to support Iowa Health and Human Services, local providers, other key stakeholders, and all Iowans to transform the delivery of behavioral health services in the state.
This program is the result of Iowa ending the mental health and disability services regions, which took effect on July 1st of this year. You can find more information about the Iowa PCA with this news story at KCIIRadio.com.
