The No. 8 in Class 3A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team posted a statement win in regional play Thursday night, sweeping River Valley Conference rival West Liberty in Wellman. These two teams split the regular season RVC title, but on this night, Mid-Prairie left no doubt about who the superior squad was, posting winning set scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-22. Golden Hawk leaders included Avery Helmuth with 25 assists. Elise Foster with 24 digs. Jeorgia Evans with 22. Jovi Evans with 20 assists, 15 kills and two aces. That performance lifted Jovi Evans past the 2,000 assist milestone for her career. Harper Pacha with 13 kills. Katelyn Harland had two aces. Following the contest, Golden Hawks of the Game, Pacha and Jeorgia Evans joined KCII sports to talk about the win. “We came out really good the first set. We came out with the most energy we have probably had all year. It was really a lot of fun. We had the confidence at the beginning of the match that we knew we were going to take control of this game. (Hitting areas) were open a lot and we moved it around a lot. It was fun to swing. It’s about getting it over and in. We trust each other as teammates to put the ball where it needs to be and then we do our job. When we’re passing, it’s watching the way the hitters going and making sure we get it up for our teammates because we are playing for each other.”
Mid-Prairie is now 29-9 on the year as West Liberty ends the season at 25-18. The Golden Hawks will have a chance to make it back-to-back trips to state Tuesday, when they host No. 12 Center Point-Urbana at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman in a Regional Final contest you can hear live on KCII.
