The average first frost date for Washington County is October 12th, but this year the fall weather’s arrival is  a little later with the cooler temperatures. According to the National Weather Service, the average temperature in Washington the first three weeks of October has been observed at 64.2 degrees – nearly 10 degrees above normal.

According to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the earliest first fall frost date with a temperature of 32 degrees is typically seen on September 28th, with the latest average date being October 27th.

The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities is estimating that the high temperature on Wednesday night will be 35 degrees, not enough for a hard freeze, but definitely enough to frost outside plants. To have a frost the dew point needs to be below freezing and the temperature at the surface below freezing, while air temperature can still be above freezing.

The temperature for the remainder of the week is forecasted to be in the upper 60’s during the day and mid to upper 40’s at night. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
