The wins keep piling up for the Washington Demon volleyball team. Washington celebrated Homecoming week by breaking out the brooms on visiting Ft. Madison Tuesday in a Southeast Conference Sweep at the Demon Den. Washington was a winner 25-10, 25-11 and 25-13. Following the match, Demon seniors Carys Miller and Lily Brown spoke with KCII Sports about the win and the team’s recent play. “We’ve done a lot of scrappy work. Trying to pick up those tips. We’ve been working a lot on tip coverage and hitting out of system. Tonight, we had some very good out of system swings. Serving is also a big one for us. We challenge ourselves a lot with running different things. I think communication and energy were also important tonight. On the court and on the bench, I feel like we really showed up for our teammates. We’ve gotten much better at communicating on the court this season. It’s really shown in our games and practice play. Collectively as a team, we are in the mindset of ‘don’t let a ball drop’, and that really helps us.”
Demon leaders included Reagan Miller with 18 assists, nine kills and five aces. Carys Miller with 14 assists. Leighton Messinger with 13 kills. Taylor Miksch with seven digs. Ellie Farmer with six digs. Lauren Drahota with two blocks. The victory is the sixth-in-a-row for the Demons, pushing their overall record to 15-8 and keeping them unbeaten at 5-0 in the SEC as they lock up the top seed for next week’s conference tournament. Fort Madison drops to 10-11 on the year.
