The Columbus Wildcat volleyball team swept away the WACO Warriors last week in Southeast Iowa Superconference action. The Wildcats were winners 25-5, 25-12 and 25-15. After the match, Columbus seniors Kennedy Woepking and Hailey Wellington spoke with KCII Sports about the win. “Our serves were really good and we were getting lots of aces. Overall with passes, sets and kills we did good. We took advantage of holes in their court and where their weakest points were. It feels like we’re really good about staying level, not getting too high or too low and maintaining the same energy throughout the whole game.”
Wildcat leaders included Daniela Diaz with 17 assists, Jocelyn Hernandez with 12 digs, Jessica Del Rio seven kills and four aces, and two blocks for Wellington. For WACO, it was 12 digs for Brenna Graber, three assists for Morgan Meyer, three kills for Carlee Lunsford, a block each for Madelyn Farmer and Kaylan Willits and an ace each for Courtney Waterhouse, Lunsford and Taelyn Egli. Columbus improves to 5-9 with WACO dropping to 3-12.
