A busy week continues for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls of summer Friday with both in action. The Mid-Prairie boys are home at Paul N. Bailey Field to meet the Williamsburg Raiders. The Golden Hawks are 3-2 this season after a Thursday win over Bettendorf 3-2. The Hawks are ranked No. 2 in Class 2A according to the first poll of the year from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. They are hitting .217 as a team with 28 total hits, 25 walks and 20 runs scored. Dylan Henry has a team best .357 average, Karson Grout has six hits to lead the way. Grout and Alex Bean have each driven in a team high three. Mid-Prairie’s team ERA is 3.91. In 34 innings, opponents are hitting .245 against them with 33 hits, 19 earned runs, 17 walks and 39 strikeouts. Brady Weber and Brock Harland have combined for seven innings of work with no runs allowed. Harland, Collin Miller and Carson Pence each have a win.

Williamsburg is 5-2 this year after a WAMAC sweep of Vinton-Shellsburg Thursday by a combined 29-1 score across two games. The Raiders are hitting .217, led by Nile Sinn at .667. Dallon Whitehill, Cael Moore and Trey O’Neill have each collected wins on the hill for the Raiders. Williamsburg is ranked No. 6 in Class 2A according to the first poll of the year from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Mid-Prairie has won four straight in the series including a 12-3 victory last season in Williamsburg. The Golden Hawk girls travel to the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex Friday for a date with the Mount Pleasant Panthers. The Hawks are 1-1 on the season after scoring a Tuesday win over Keokuk and dropping a Thursday 3-2 decision to the defending Class 3A state champion Mount Vernon Mustangs in Kalona. This year, Mid-Prairie is hitting .353 collectively with 16 hits, 14 runs scored, and 14 walks drawn. Hannah Sellers has a team best four hits. She, Sydney Knebel and Olivia Swartzentruber have all driven in three. Dakota Mitchell has scored a team leading four times. In the circle, Knebel has worked all 14 innings so far with a 1-1 record, five ERA, giving up 10 runs, 10 hits, walking four and striking out a dozen.

Mount Pleasant is 1-0 after a 6-4 win over Holy Trinity Catholic Monday. The Panthers were just 3-28 a year ago, hitting .264 collectively with 160 hits, 89 runs scored and 46 walks. They return their top two at the plate with Emma Starr and Madison Helling who each hit .333 in their sophomore seasons. Starr had a team best 24 hits and 10 RBI. In the circle, the Panthers had an 8.83 team ERA, with opponents hitting .262 as they surrendered 255 hits, 193 earned runs, walking 169 and striking out 41. Helling had the top numbers there as well, with a 2-4 record, 38 innings of work and a 5.34 ERA. These two teams met last year in Kalona with the Hawks getting the 11-1 win in five innings.
