The Washington County Riverboat Foundation announced at their Spring Grant Awards Tuesday St. James Elementary School received $83,281 to purchase new school windows. KCII News spoke with the business manager for St James Church and School, Mary Sue Marek about what these funds will cover for St. James. “All the windows are the original windows to the school, which was built in 1956. And there are many windows that are boarded up because they’ve broken over the years, there are ones that are actually nailed shut because they don’t stay closed anymore. And you know, as we know in this day and age, safety is a huge thing. Some of the fire escape ones just aren’t working correctly, as well as the security and safety of staff and students.” The Washington County Riverboat Foundation is the nonprofit license holder for the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort, which provides the entirety of its funding.
