The Washington Demons have put together one of the most successful girls’ soccer seasons in school history. Now they look to make some more memories as they travel to face Davenport Assumption in the Class 1A Region 4 semifinals tonight, a game you can hear on KCII.

Washington’s 3-0 victory over Mediapolis in the quarterfinals last week gave the Demons 11 wins, most in any single season for the program. Junior forward Audrey Anderson scored twice to raise her team high to nine goals, while freshman Angeline Anderson and junior Giselle Marcelino have been strong attacking forces all season long.

The Demons have also won five of their last six matches thanks to a stout defense. Seniors Lindsay Diaz and Nicoll Torijos have set an example that young players like sophomore Alyvia Anderson and freshman Isobel Murphy have learned well from, allowing Washington give up only 21 goals total this season and just two over the last six matches. Demons head coach Mason Quigley tells KCII Sports that his team has the right approach for playoff soccer.

“It’s a new season,” Quigley says. “Once you get to that postseason, it’s a new season. Anybody can win. You just got to bring your A-game every night. It’s always up to the team that wants to play the best that night.”

Washington will have one of its biggest challenges of the season in the Assumption Knights, who are 11-4 and rank third in the state in Class 1A, thanks in part to sophomore Dru Dorsey’s 17 goals and 10 assists. The Demons battle in Davenport for a trip to the Region 4 final, and you can hear all the action on KCII. Pregame coverage starts this evening at 6:30 on 102.5 FM, AM 1380 and streaming on KCIIradio.com.
