One thing is certain, when the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team is around no other team, course or record can feel safe. It was a Wednesday business trip to Stone Creek Golf Club in Williamsburg, as the Golden Hawks brought home the Class 2A Regional Final title to score their second straight trip to state. Mid-Prairie shot a 367 team 18-hole score, a new program best. That number was 10 better than second place West Marshall. The Hawks lit up the leaderboard in black and gold, putting three in the top seven, led by meet runner-up Gabi Robertson and her 87, featuring a 40 on the front side. Other Mid-Prairie cards included Kylie Reinier third with an 89, Madi Davidson seventh at 92, Elliot Debler in double digits at 99, Addison English 102 and Alexa Huber 105. After the tournament, KCII Sports caught up with the group of happy Hawks, their banner in hand, to talk about the day and their tournament. Reinier talked about the mindset before the tourney started, “I was a little nervous, but while we were warming up, there was a big difference in how we were acting together versus the other teams. We were a lot more laid back and joking around. We were calm and confident.”

Robertson continued, “We definitely mess around to get our minds off of how stressful all of this really is. Winning feels amazing.”

Huber added, “Walking in there and seeing that we had beaten West Marshall by 10 strokes was crazy because their first round they shot very close to what we had.”

Davidson said, “We knew it was going to be close, but we did it!”

English finished with, “We’ve been working since January for this. This is why we do it!”

This marks the first time the program has made consecutive trips to state since the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Mid-Prairie’s overall record now stands at 38-6. They will play May 25th and 26th at the 2023 Class 2A State Tournament at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown. They finished 10th at state in 2022.
