The Mid-Prairie girls basketball team had a big year, and players have received awards for their work on the court, but the Golden Hawks also saw recognition extend to the sidelines. Golden Hawk head girls coach Danny Hershberger was named River Valley South Division Coach of the Year.

Hershberger, who just finished his sixth year at the helm of the program, is receiving the award for the first time. He led the Hawks to a 16-7 overall record, the most wins in a single season during his tenure. After a 5-5 start to the season that included several tight losses to ranked teams, the Hawks came out of the holidays and reeled off 10 straight victories including a road win at No. 13 West Liberty. They finished 9-3, third in the River Valley Conference. Four players from this year’s team were named All-RVC. The Golden Hawks were bounced in the regional semifinal round of the Class 3A playoffs.

Hershberger has a 71-63 overall record at Mid-Prairie.
