It was a busy weekend for Columbus Wildcat wrestling. The Columbus boys took sixth at the Bean City Duals in Iowa City Saturday. The Wildcats dropped their first dual 56-15 to Dubuque-Hempstead, but after falling 66-9 to Mount Vernon, Columbus bounced back to beat Oskaloosa 54-21 and defeat Muscatine 54-22.

The Wildcats would fall in their trophy dual 51-24 against Cedar Rapids-Xavier, but there were plenty of individual winners on the day. Junior Cole Storm won four bouts, three of them with a pin, at 160 pounds. Junior Russell Coil continued his dominant season with a pair of pins at 285 lbs, while sophomore Jacob Nelson did the same at 106.

A pair of Columbus wrestlers needed extra time to get wins. Freshman Bowen Thomson won with an 8-6 sudden victory at 126, while sophomore Abraham Garcia won a 5-2 overtime tiebreaker at 285. Junior Ty Scorpil won twice with a pin and a technical knockout at 120, adding to senior Triston Miller pinning one opponent and defeating another in a 6-4 decision at 152. Other Wildcats who got a pin to win were freshman Jaxton Jones at 106; sophomore Riley Kaalberg at 170; and senior Ethan Palmer at 182.

The Columbus girls took part in the Louisa-Muscatine Invitational Saturday. Freshman Emily Miranda had the top finish for the Wildcats, taking fifth place at 155 lbs. Classmate Quinn Smith was seventh at 120.
