Thirty-five Keota High School students will be heading to the Iowa High School Speech Association’s State Large Group Contest in Cedar Rapids. The Eagles hosted nearly 30 area schools in the District competition on Saturday, with six of their seven competing groups earning a Division 1 rating.  

Readers Theater groups included Aiden Conrad and Noah Fisher for their performance of “Scooter Thomas Makes It To The Top Of The World”. Jake Morris, Chase Haifley, Jackson Vittetoe, Luke Moeller, and Gavin Sieren earned their trip to state with “How Angel Peterson Got His Name”. 

Two One Act Play groups received a Division 1 rating as well. Performing “10 Reasons You Should Have Stayed Home Sick” were Jake Morris, Chase Haifley, Jackson Vittetoe, Luke Moeller, Gavin Sieren, Cael Jaeger, Olivia Lyle, Emily Mahan, Kennedy Jackson, Tierney Greiner, Garrett Greiner, Dakota Dodd, and Addison Purkeypile. “Audition” featured Cassie Swantz, Emily Sheetz, Taylor Garman, Grace Conger, Lainey Swanson, Izzi Chalupa, Delaney Clubb, Savannah Smith, Isaac Striegel, Owen Morris, Edi Serban, Nicole Clarahan, and Kimberly Clarahan. 

Division 1 ratings in Ensemble Acting included Grace Conger, Kimberly Clarahan, Ava Greiner, Lainey Swanson, and Izzi Chalupa for “Dinner Plans”. Caden Sprouse, Sawyer Stout, Aiden Conrad, and Dakota Hammen will also be going to state for their Ensemble Acting performance, entitled “If Men Played Cards As Women Do.”

In Group Improvisation, Savannah Smith and Delaney Clubb received a Division 2 rating. 

The IHSSA State Large Group Contest will be held on Saturday, February 4 at Cedar Rapids Washington High School.
