Friday was a tough one for the Hillcrest Academy Raven boys and girls basketball teams as Louisa-Muscatine visited Dwight Gingerich Court and spoiled the Raven’s Senior Night with a pair of wins. The Falcon girls took their contest by a 45-35 count. L-M led 13-7 after the first frame and 24-14 at half. The Ravens played even with the Falcons after intermission with each team putting up 21. Malia Yoder and Claire Withrow each poured in 14 points for Hillcrest, including four three point goals for Withrow. With the loss, Hillcrest falls to 0-16 overall, 0-11 in conference play.

The boys contest was a nail biter with L-M beating the Ravens 47-46. The game was even at 10 after the first frame, but Hillcrest found some breathing room in the second thanks to trio of triples in the quarter, two from Seth Ours and one from Jace Rempel to lead 25-18 at half. The Falcons made their move out of the break with a 16-5 run that spanned the entire third period to take a 34-30 lead into the fourth. Things went back and forth late with senior Grant Bender giving the Ravens a one point lead on a basket with less than a minute to go. Ty Northrup put the Falcons back in front on a hoop with 13 seconds to play. The final look for Hillcrest would not fall and the Falcons survived. The Ravens edged the Falcons by one on the glass and won the turnover battle 23-14. Bender had a game high 26 for the Ravens, Ours added 14 including four threes. With the loss, Hillcrest fell to 8-7. They honored seniors Luke Schrock, Jace Rempel, Grant Bender and Josiah Beachy with a ceremony during the evening.
