It’s a non-conference doubleheader in Kalona Saturday afternoon when the Keota Eagle boys and girls basketball teams visit the Hillcrest Academy Ravens. The Hillcrest boys come into the weekend with a 7-5 mark for the year, 7-3 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference after a 65-46 loss to WACO Thursday where Seth Ours had 17 points and Grant Bender 11. On the year, the Ravens score 58 points per game and give up 46, shooting 49% from the floor, 39% from distance and 50% at the line with 22 rebounds, 14 assists, 11 steals and 10 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Bender at 17 points and five boards per night with Luke Schrock at four assists and three steals per game.

The Keota boys are 11-3 this year, 9-2 in the South Iowa Cedar League East after dismantling Colfax-Mingo last night 84-43. This season, the Eagles score 65 per game and give up 46, shooting 43% from the floor, 29% from deep and 57% at the line with 36 rebounds, 13 assists, 11 steals and 15 turnovers per game. Individual Eagle leaders include Sawyer Stout at 18 points per night, Billie Kindred nine boards and Cole Kindred with five assists and two steals per night.

The Hillcrest girls are in search of their first win at 0-13 overall, 0-9 in the Superconference. They fell to WACO 66-36 Thursday with Claire Withrow scoring 22 points. This season the Ravens score 22 points per game and give up 51, shooting 22% from the floor, 24% from three and 49% at the line with 27 rebounds, four assists, six steals and 25 turnovers per game. Individually, Withrow averages 11 points per game, Delaney Shaw six boards and Malia Yoder two steals and two assists.

The Keota girls are 4-10 this year, 4-6 in the SICL, falling to English Valleys Thursday 39-33 as Kimberly Clarahan went double double with 10 points and 10 boards. This season, the Eagles score 34 points per game and give up 42, shooting 29% from the floor, 28% from three and 53% at the line with 24 rebounds, nine assists, 12 steals and 18 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include Clarahan at 10 points, five boards, three assists and three steals per night. Hillcrest has won the last three meetings with Keota, including the last two decided by a single point each.
