The WACO Warriors picked up a win in their girls’ basketball season opener, defeating Pekin 62-26 Tuesday night. WACO already had a comfortable 30-15 lead at halftime before the Warriors more than doubled their advantage down the stretch.

Senior Ellah Kissell paced WACO in scoring and matched her jersey number by scoring 15 of her game-high 22 points in the second half. Fellow senior Grace Coble led the charge for the Warriors early on, with 10 of her 14 points coming in the first two quarters. Junior Halle Sherman chipped in 11 points as WACO wins its first game of a season for the first time since 2014.
