The Washington Demon cross country team concluded an outstanding season with nine total runners participating at this year’s Class 3A State Championships in Fort Dodge Saturday. Of those nine, seven represented the girls’ team and helped Washington finish sixth in the team standings.

One girl, freshman Iris Dahl, ran her best time ever to take home a medal, completing the course in 19 minutes and 20 seconds to finish sixth. Junior Micah Rees also earned a medal in the boys’ race, finishing 13th with a time of 16:26 and ensuring that he won a medal in every race this season.

The only other top-50 time at state for Washington belonged to sophomore Quincy Griffis, who ran a time of 20:36. Other times for the Demon girls included sophomore Alyvia Anderson in 20:54; sophomore Lauren Horak in 20:58; freshman Angeline Anderson in 21:09; sophomore Isabella Lujan in 21;31; and sophomore Kendall Hinrichsen in 21:38. Sophomore Tyler Alderton was the only other Washington boy who qualified for state and ran a time of 17:45.
