The second-ranked WACO Warriors put on another dominant display last night, defeating Central City 48-12 in the second round of the 8-man football playoffs. WACO led 21-0 for most of the first half on the strength of touchdown runs by Simeon Reichenbach and Louden Huisenga and a 10-yard TD catch by Oleh Shtefanchuk. But after Central City scored late in the second quarter to cut the halftime deficit to 15, the Warriors put the game away with authority in the third period. Reichenbach returned the opening kickoff 50 yards and scored later on the drive, and he would find the end zone twice more with a dazzling 36-yard scamper and a 20-yard interception return. WACO head coach Chad Edeker told KCII Sports his team once again came out determined to leave no doubt.

“We’re a run-first team,” Edeker said. “We threw the ball really well. Isaac [Oswald] threw the ball really well and we had some great catches and moved the ball there. But we’re a run-first team and we’re going to be physical. And we want to own the line of scrimmage. This is 11-0 now and I’ve said it 10 times that we own the line of scrimmage. We dominated it.”

Reichenbach finished with 149 yards on 14 carries and also hit two field-goal kicks. The WACO defense limited a Central City attack that was averaging almost 45 points per game to only 140 total yards. The Warriors are now 11-0, the second-most wins in a season in school history. WACO goes for the record and a trip to the UNI Dome when they host number-ten Montezuma in the 8-man quarterfinals Thursday night.
