There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot stopping the Columbus Community Wildcats. The now seventh-ranked team in the state in A football has won every one of their games by at least 20 points in a 5-0 start, and they’ll look to continue that trend when they host North Mahaska for homecoming tomorrow night. Columbus has also scored at least 39 points in every game this season. Junior running back Kaden Amigon is closing in on 1,000 yards rushing and has scored 13 touchdowns. Senior Triston Miller has added over 630 yards and nine TDs on the ground, with both ball carriers averaging better than 14 yards per rush.

Amigon and Miller are also part of a stout Wildcat defense that gives up only 16 points a game. The pair join senior Jeff Hoback, sophomore Riley Kaalberg and juniors Cole Storm and Russell Coil as players with at least 20 tackles. While Coil has invaded the backfield all season with seven tackles for loss and two sacks, senior Ethan Palmer and sophomore Bryce Grimm have also been strong on the defensive line, combining for 11 tackles for loss and three sacks.

Columbus’ primary objective will be to slow down North Mahaska running back Paul DeJong. The senior leads the Warhawks with 506 yards rushing and seven yards per carry. Otherwise, the offense has struggled, averaging only 13 points per contest. There could be very few points on the board in total, as Columbus Community won last year’s battle 10-0. The Wildcats hope for a homecoming victory starting at 7 tomorrow evening.
