For the last 11 years, the state of Iowa has held the “Healthiest State Walk” in an effort to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation. On Wednesday, October 5, Winfield-Mt. Union Community Schools will join thousands of Iowans in this tradition.

Students and staff plan to walk around the perimeter of the school, as well as the track, for 30 minutes, and they are encouraging community members to join. The elementary school will be walking throughout the day, with the high school and middle school walking from 1:33-1:55 p.m. The theme for the event is “Walk More. Connect More.” with the hope that participants will not only walk for the physical benefits, but also use that time to connect with each other and boost mental health.

The walk will temporarily close parts of West Central Avenue, West Pine Street, and South Clark Street around the school building to ensure the safety of the walkers. More information can be found at http://www.iowahealthieststate.com/.
