Three KCII area schools found themselves in this week’s Iowa high school football poll issued by the Associated Press Monday.

Top area team is in 8-man where the WACO Warriors continue their undefeated run at No. 2 in the state. The Warriors are receiving a pair of first place votes. WACO is 6-0 this year after a 43-14 Homecoming win over New London last week. The Warriors have outscored their opponents this year by a combined 315-96 score. WACO is next on the field Friday at 3-2 Lone Tree.

In Class 1A, the No. 7 Columbus Wildcats also remain unbeaten at 5-0 after a second half come-from-behind win at Pekin last Friday 53-28. The Wildcats have outscored their opponents this year by a combined 251-81 count. The ‘Cats celebrate Homecoming this week when they entertain 1-4 North Mahaska.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks appear in the Class 2A poll this week for the first time in 2022 at No. 9. The Hawks are 4-1 after a 51-0 win over Central Lee a week ago. Mid-Prairie has started 2-0 in district play topping their opponents by a combined 107-0 score. The Golden Hawks welcome No. 1 in Class 2A and undefeated Williamsburg to Wellman for a top ten Homecoming showdown this Friday.
