The holiday weekend finds four teams from the KCII listening area on the volleyball court at the English Valleys tournament Saturday.

Hillcrest Academy will be on the floor. The Ravens stand at 1-5 on the year after a sweep at the hands of the WACO Warriors in Kalona Thursday. For the season, Hillcrest is led by Claire Withrow’s 26 assists, Niva Helmuth with 15 kills and Malia Yoder’s 13 digs.

WACO is unbeaten at 3-0 after their victory in Kalona last week. The Warriors are paced by Grace Coble with 38 assists, Jocelyn Fulton at 32 digs and 16 kills each for Coble and Ellah Kissell.

Winfield-Mt. Union comes into the fray with a 3-4 mark for the year. They have been off since a tournament last weekend at West Branch where they went 2-4 with victories over Iowa City Regina and Prince of Peace, while falling to the home Bears, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Wapello and Don Bosco. Top performers for the Wolves this year include Keely Malone with 96 assists, Keetyn Townsley’s 89 digs and 28 kills for Melina Oepping.

Sigourney is 3-1 this year. The Savages have had just one event on the calendar so far, beating Pekin twice and Wapello once while falling to Van Buren at the WACO tournament on August 22nd. For the season, Sigourney is led by Reagan Power with 52 digs, Brookelyn Hemsley’s 44 assists and 17 kills for Reagan Clarahan.

Joining those four teams from the listening area today at EV are Cardinal, East Marshall, Tri-County and the home Bears.
