Washington Schools will be home to student teachers from the University of Iowa and Buena Vista University this year after the Washington School Board approved a new agreement at their July 13th meeting in Brighton. This new partnership agreement between the two universities and the Washington Community School District will run for the duration of the upcoming school year.

The program will allow students who have completed the necessary academic and professional training programs to get educational field experience. Washington Schools Superintendent Willie Stone says the board welcomes the influx of soon-to-be educators. “We try to get as many student teachers as possible because the educational field is getting smaller and smaller. So, if we have people that want to see what a classroom is like, we try to welcome as many as we can.”

The next Washington Community School Board meeting will be on August 10th at 7 pm in Washington.
