For the second year in a row the Sigourney baseball team finds themselves in a class 1A district title and the Savages seek a happier result this time around when they host Moravia with two wins separating both teams from a state bid.

Sigourney comes in with a 19-5 overall mark and advanced to this bout after a 2-0 shutout over Wayne where Bo Schmidt tossed a gem and launched a two run home run. The bats have been productive all year with a .378 BA led by Cade Molyneux managing a .557 average and 40 RBI. The pitching staff has registered a 3.93 ERA with Schmidt having a 2.93 in 43 innings of work. The Mohawks are 20-6, finished second in the Bluegrass Conference, and edged Southeast Warren 3-2 on Tuesday. The team has a collective .293 average led by Wyatt Throckmorton with a .400 BA. Moravia’s team ERA sits at 3.32 with Throckmorton having a 1.89 ERA in 40 innings.

Last year in this round the Savages lost a heartbreaker to New London by a 4-3 score. Tonight’s action begins at 7 p.m. in Sigourney.
