Just after 11:30p.m. Tuesday, July 5th, Fairfield Police responded to a call in the 1100 Block of West Hempstead Avenue in Fairfield, for a report of a burglary in progress. When authorities arrived on scene, the homeowner was in a physical altercation with a subject. Officers were able to detain the subject and learned that two others had fled the scene in a vehicle before police had arrived. Fairfield Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to locate the get-away vehicle but were not immediately successful.

After an investigation of the scene it was determined that the detained man, 20-year-old Jose Arturo Perez-Rojas of Mount Pleasant, and the other two assailants forcibly entered the home of the victim with the intent to commit a robbery. After forcing their way inside, Perez-Rojas assaulted the victim by hitting him several times, and a physical struggle ensued until officers arrived.

Perez-Rojas was transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility and charged with Second Degree Robbery and Conspiracy, both Class C Felonies. He has since bonded out of custody. The case is still classified as active and anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the Fairfield Police Department at (641)472-4146.
