juneteenth-saturday-schedule

The Juneteenth celebration will come to a close today in Washington’s Central Park with a series of family friendly events.

Festivities will wrap up with a showing of Disney’s Remember the Titans. A movie based on real events that transpired in 1971 when two communities were merged together into one unified school in segregated Virginia.

The journey to conquer the friction and mistrust that separated these communities played out on the football field. The previously all-white and black high school teams are charged with putting aside their differences led by head coach Herman Boone played by Denzel Washington.

The show is set to begin at 9pm and will be preceded by the Eulenspiegel puppet show about Buxton, Iowa and the Caleb Rainey Spoken Word event. If you would like more information about the activities planned for today you can find it on KCIIradio.com
