There will be plenty of KCII area representation today at the 2022 Iowa High School Girls State Golf Meet with Washington, Mid-Prairie, and Sigourney set to compete for a state title.

The first 18 of 36 holes will be played today with Washington teeing off at River Valley Golf Course in Adel for the class 3A meet. The defending champion Demons seek their fifth title in the last seven seasons and they come in with the fourth best 18-hole average of 358. They shot a 361 at last week’s Edmundson Regional to punch their ticket to state for a 21st time. Kaylin Long and Makenna Conrad went one-two with scores of 81 and 82, respectively. Head Coach Erin Thorius tells KCII Sports a practice round at the course last weekend was beneficial for the girls. “We had the ability to see the course for ourselves and a big part of it is that visual of what you are getting yourself into. It is an open course, we got some really good shots in, and our girls are really excited for the meet.” The competition in Adel for the Demons include Humboldt, Sioux Center, Gilbert, ADM, Lisbon, Clear Lake, West Delaware, Dubuque Wahlert, and Solon.

Mid-Prairie will make a trip to Cedar Falls to Pheasant Ridge Golf Course for the class 2A meet. The Golden Hawks finished runner-up at last week’s regional in West Liberty with a round of 392 to qualify for the big dance for the first time since 2014. Madi Davidson led the team with a 92, well below her 98 average. Other class 2A teams include New Hampton, Garner Hayfield Ventura, Sumner-Fredericksburg, Dike-New Hartford, Roland-Story, Treynor, Williamsburg, Van Meter, and Anamosa.

Sigourney will make their second straight trip to state and they will be at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown for the class 1A tournament. The heavy favorites in the Diamond Trail regional showed out with a first place score of 371. Maddie Hornback has led them all year and shot a 78, eight below her 86 average. The Savages placed 10th in the state last year and they will go up against competition from Newell-Fonda, Central Lyon, Akron-Westfield, St. Albert, BCLUW, New London, West Branch, Bishop-Garrigan, and Grundy Center.

The action begins at 9 a.m. this morning at each location.
