It was the final Southeast Iowa Super Conference doubleheader for the Highland basketball teams on Thursday with a trip to Packwood and Pekin had the upper hand in both matchups.

The girls’ game was a defensive struggle with the Panthers (9-10, 7-7) leading 14-5 at the break. The Huskies cut it to four by the fourth, but a 12-11 close to the game for Pekin secured the season sweep over visiting Highland. The red and white were led by Sarah Burton with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals. The team connected on just seven of 31 field goal attempts. They dropped to 10-10 overall and finished fourth in the north division with a 9-7 league mark.

The Panther boys (8-10, 8-6) got out to a fast start leading 19-10 after eight minutes and 34-18 at intermission. The margin grew to as high as 26 in the second half for Pekin to cruise to victory. Highland’s Chase Schultz led the squad with 15 points and seven boards. They fall to 3-16 overall and 3-13 in the SEISC.
