It was a clean sweep of a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader on Friday in Thornburg when the visiting Keota basketball teams handled Tri-County in both contests.

The Eagle girls relied on their defense in a 37-30 win where they held the Trojans (3-13) to single digits in every quarter and recorded a 15-9 fourth to capture the season sweep. Keota shot just 27% from the floor, but made 19 of 30 from the line including Macie McDonald hitting eight of 11 for a game-high 18 points. Taylor Kindred collected eight points and eight boards in the victory. Keota improves to 6-13 overall and 6-9 in the SICL.

The boys game was all purple and gold with the Eagles building a 40-14 halftime lead and continuing to soar in the final two quarters to finish with a 70-39 triumph over the Trojans (1-15). A total of 11 players scored a bucket led by Sawyer Stout’s 22 point outing where the sophomore hit eight of 16 shots. Evan Vittetoe recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds while Colten Clarahan had 10 points. They improve to 9-9 overall and 6-8 in the conference.

Keota has their only game of the week today hosting English Valleys.
