It was homecoming Friday in Keota last week and rival Sigourney came to ruin the party with the Savages making the short drive and sweeping the South Iowa Cedar League basketball doubleheader.

The Savage boys were able to exorcise some demons against their neighbor to the east with a 50-40 road victory. They took control early with a 28-15 halftime lead and despite Keota making a third quarter push to cut it to seven, Sigourney won the fourth by a 9-6 count to come away with the victory. Levi Crawford hit a trio of threes to finish with a game-high 20 points while Ethan Shifflett recorded nine points and 10 boards. Evan Vittetoe had a monstrous night for the home squad with 15 points and 17 rebounds. This is just the second win for the Savages against the purple and gold since 2015. Sigourney is now 9-7 and 6-6 in the conference. Keota falls to 7-8 and 5-7 in the league.

The Eagle girls were searching for their first win against the Savages in seven years, but came up empty in a 33-26 loss. For awhile it looked like the wait could be over with Keota leading 14-12 at half and 21-19 at the break, but Sigourney turned it on for a 14-5 fourth quarter to seize victory. Sigourney improves to 9-8 and 6-6 in the SICL while Keota drops to 4-12 and 4-8 in the league.
