Col/WMU, Washington, and Highland Grapplers Compete in Fort Madison

The annual pre-Christmas two-day wrestling tournament in Fort Madison took place over the weekend with area schools Columbus Community/Winfield-Mt. Union, Washington, and Highland hitting the mat. 

The Wildcats had the best area showing in 11th out of 21 teams with 187 points while Ottumwa won the team championship with 393. Lane Scorpil was not playing around, as the senior took home gold at 120 lbs by going 6-0 in the tournament. He managed five pins including three of them being under one minute and his other match was a 16-1 technical fall. Scorpil moved to 18-0 on the season. Ty Scorpil had the other podium finish for the Wildcats in third at 113 lbs and Russell Coil was fifth at 285 lbs. 

Washington was next in line by placing 12th with 182 points. It’s been 25 up and 25 down for Aaron Boone to start his career and the 113 pound Demon won all six of his matches in Fort Madison. The freshman managed three pins, a 17-2 technical fall, a 10-2 major decision, and a 9-2 decision to seize the title. Lane Schrock was fourth at 138 lbs and Brayden Hartman was fourth at 285 lbs. 

Carlos Valenzuela paced Highland with a second place showing at 132 lbs with a record of 5-1. Spencer Grout finished sixth at 138 lbs. The Huskies placed 19th with 103 points.
