waco-2

Fort Madison was the destination for the WACO basketball teams on Tuesday for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference doubleheader against Holy Trinity and both teams came away with a split.

Bringing back plenty of experience from last year, the Warriors put the pressure on the Crusaders early by jumping out to a 19-4 lead after one and 32-8 advantage at the break. The margin continued to get steeper in the second half that led to a 58-29 season opening win. WACO shot 41% from the floor led by Simeon Reichenbach with 12 points and seven rebounds. Hunter Hughes had 11 points and five assists, Reece Oswald collected 10 points, and Cody Graber brought in nine boards.

The girls did not have as good of luck by dropping the road contest 55-30. Holy Trinity led 26-13 at the break, 38-21 after three, and a 17-8 fourth quarter shut the door on the conference bout. Ellah Kissell registered 16 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Grace Coble added six points and six boards while Emma Wagler brought in nine rebounds.

The boys start up the year 1-0 and the girls drop to 0-2.
