Washington County confirmed another COVID-19 death in the last seven days, as hospitalizations in Iowa have risen to numbers that were seen last December before vaccines were authorized.

Washington County now has 64 deaths as Iowa confirmed 91 deaths in the last week, bringing the total to 7,445 deaths. Southeast Iowa added 30 new hospitalizations in the last week for a current total of 158, with 18 more admitted to the ICU, a total of 38. Statewide nearly 100 more patients are currently hospitalized for a total of 721, with 172 in the ICU. Those not fully vaccinated account for 77.9% in the ICU, and 75.7% of those hospitalized. Fifty-two percent of Washington County residents are fully vaccinated, while statewide the percentage is 56.5. Those five years and older can receive a free COVID-19 vaccine, and those 18 years and older are eligible for a booster dose. To find a vaccine provider near you, go to vaccines.gov.
