keota-eagles1-300x211-300x211-8

An inexperienced Keota boys’ basketball team was not phased on the road in the season opener last night when they invaded Letts and triumphed over Louisa-Muscatine 52-41 in a non-conference showdown.

A lightning quick start helped the Eagles jump out to a 18-5 lead after one and 32-10 advantage at the break. Louisa-Muscatine (0-1) made their move in the third with a 18-5 quarter, but could never get over the hump with Keota holding them off for the win. Sophomore Sawyer Stout buried six triples and finished with a game-high 23 points. Cole Kindred added eight points, four steals, and four assists. Conner Strand recorded six points and five rebounds. The Eagles start the year 1-0 after losing 96% of their scoring from a 20-3 team last season including all five starters.

The Eagle girls fell in the doubleheader by a 45-13 final. L&M (1-0) held just a 10-8 advantage after one, but a 14-1 second quarter and 13-2 third allowed them to pull away for the victory. Keota is now 0-2.

The Eagle squads get back on the court tonight hosting Belle Plaine.
