The City of Kalona will be in full celebration mode this Saturday during their annual event, Christmas in Kalona.

With festivities taking place throughout the city, residents will have no shortage of places to visit to get in the holiday spirit. From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., events will take place in the downtown area, YMCA and the historical village. Festivities include the Kids’ Walking and Stocking, holiday shopping, live music, sidewalk campfires, a visit with Santa, the Kalona Christmas Market and more. A highlight for this year’s event is the addition of the Christmas tree walk and caroling at the historical village. Christmas in Kalona committee member Olivia Kahler shares her exciting for the new event, “I think this additional evening event of the Christmas tree walk and being downtown in the historical village in the evening with the Christmas lights shining and the live music, the caroling, I think that is a whole new aspect of community comradery. And I am so excited to get that cozy small town feel.”

Kalona Chamber of Commerce Assistant Director Krista Hershberger explains that local businesses can also take part in the fun, “For local businesses and organizations there are a lot of ways to get involved with this event. There’s no charge to have a tree in the historical village. So you just bring the tree and your decorations and sign-up. We have a local school doing it, organizations can do it. People are going to be voting on the tree so your name is also on there. Then we have the Christmas market so lots of opportunities for small businesses and folks to get involved in there.”

Businesses that are interested in getting involved with any of the festivities are encouraged to contact the Kalona Chamber of Commerce at 319-656-2660. For a schedule of events, visit here
