Three schools in the KCII listening area were represented on the 8-player all state football teams recently released by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and the Iowa Football Coaches Association. 

Fresh off their first 10 win season since 2010, four WACO players were awarded all state distinction led by first team selections in runningback Simeon Reichenbach and defensive lineman Jonah Clark. The 6’0’’ 185 pound Reichenbach collected the fifth most all purpose yards in the state with 2,099. The junior finished with 1,413 rushing yards at 7.2 yards a pop and reached the endzone 23 times. He added two more touchdowns through the air, one receiving, and finished with 32.5 tackles defensively. Reichenbach connected on eight of 11 field goals with a long of 39 yards. Clark was named defensive player of the year in District 6 by recording 43 tackles including 9.5 for a loss and four sacks. The senior tallied five touchdowns and brought in 11 receptions for 155 yards. Mason Miller was named second team defensive back. No one in eight-player had more interceptions than the junior’s nine and he tallied 35 tackles. Tim Willits was the final Warrior recognized being named a third team offensive lineman. The senior anchored a line that paved the way for 3,700 yards of total offense and he managed 14 tackles on the other side. 

Lone Tree’s Cade Shield was named second team defensive back. The senior finished with 42.5 tackles, picked off two passes, and recovered a fumble. The dual threat quarterback also had the second most passing yards in the district with 1,202. He completed 99 of 179 throws for nine touchdowns and added 12 more scores on the ground with 618 rushing yards. Winfield-Mt. Union’s Cam Buffington was picked to the third team as a defensive utility player. The sophomore paced the Wolves with 55 tackles. As the quarterback, Buffington finished second in the league with 36 touchdowns. He completed 66 of 122 passes for 1,157 yards and 17 touchdowns to go along with 1,028 rushing yards and 18 more scores. 

WACO finished the year 10-1, WMU was 4-3, and Lone Tree had a 4-4 record.
