The streets of Washington and other neighboring communities are quiet today as many workplaces celebrate Thanksgiving.

Washington, Kalona, Riverside, and Wellman city halls are closed today and tomorrow. Thursday’s garbage for Washington and Wellman residents will be picked up on Friday. The Kalona Public Library is closed through the end of the week, while the Washington and Wellman-Scofield public libraries will be open Saturday for normal hours and from 9-11 a.m., respectively. The Washington County Courthouse, Rural Solid Waste and Recycling Center, and all other county offices are closed through Friday. Students, staff, and teachers are also out of school this week, with Mid-Prairie, Highland and Hillcrest Academy resuming classes on Monday, and Washington community schools returning Tuesday.
